    This knowledge area includes the fundamentals of hardware and software and how they integrate to form essential components of IT systems. IT professionals will encounter a variety of platforms in their careers. The role of the IT professional is to select, deploy, integrate, and administer platforms or components to support the organization’s IT infrastructure. This course will use a combination of lectures, class discussions, the Jigsaw technique, inquiry-based instruction, and hands-on activities.


    Database Systems 1 (IM101-3D)

    The course covers discussions of database systems, the nature of data, data association, data semantics, and models. A specific DBMS will be used to implement data models for use in business application programs. This course will use a combination of lectures, class discussions, the Jigsaw technique, inquiry-based instruction, and hands-on activities.


    Integrative Programming and Technologies 1 (ITP101-2F)

    The course covers the integration of mobile and desktop apps. The topics comprise basic graphical user interfaces (GUI) on mobile and PC and utilize REST API to connect to a database. This course uses a combination of lectures, class discussions, the Jigsaw technique, inquiry-based instruction, and hands-on activities.

    This course provides a foundational overview of Information Technology, equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of its principles, practices, and evolving landscape. It begins by examining the historical development of the field, the structure and function of the Internet and digital communication, and the diverse career opportunities within the ICT sector, while emphasizing the critical importance of cybersecurity by addressing digital risks and unauthorized access. The curriculum further explores the role of IT in facilitating business processes through the study of emerging technologies, enterprise systems, digital platforms, and project management fundamentals, alongside an introduction to systems development frameworks, methodologies for system design, data mining techniques, and key project planning essentials. In the final module, students gain practical knowledge in web and interface design, learning the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and utilizing design tools such as Figma to create user-centered interfaces and prototypes. Through this course, students will develop essential theoretical and practical skills that provide a solid foundation for future academic and professional pursuits in the field of information technology.

    This course introduces students to the fundamentals of building a successful technology-based venture by exploring local and global technology trends and opportunities. It covers key concepts such as the Lean Startup approach, Minimum Viable Product (MVP), traction, customer discovery, business modeling, customer development, and pitching and fundraising. By the end of the course, students will be able to form a startup team, understand customer behavior, identify financing options, develop a marketing strategy, and culminate their learning by pitching their venture to investors and key stakeholders during Demo Day.
